Abstract

A fibre opening device comprises pref. two needled rollers over which a fibre mat. passes and pref. beneath each roller is a device e.g. a conveyor belt for collecting un-opened fibre agglomerates and re-cyclising through the opening operation. Associated with each roller is a device e.g. a grinding wheel for automatically re-sharpening the points of the needles on the rollers and a mechanism (eg a suction device) for forming the opening device also has a fire prevention arrangement. Pref. fibres are fed onto each needled roller via a nip formed between a rubber feed roll and a housing surrounding the feed roll.
