Abstract
1284838 Combustion apparatus JUNKERS & CO GmbH 24 Nov 1970 [25 Nov 1969] 55768/70 Heading F1L A burner apparatus comprises a combustion chamber for the combustion of a fuel-air mixture, an exhaust duct connected to the combustion chamber, a condensate separating chamber being disposed at the outlet end of the exhaust duct and a condensate return duct extends from the separating chamber to a suction return device disposed within the exhaust. The invention is described with reference to a pulsating type combustion apparatus comprising a combustion chamber 10 having a resonant tube 12 which discharges into a silencer 14 to which an exhaust duct 15 leads to an outlet to atmosphere. A condensate separating chamber 17 is disposed at the outlet of the exhaust duct 15 and a condensate return duct 18 extends from the chamber 17 to a suction return device 19 at the upstream end of the exhaust duct. In Fig. 2 the separating chamber 17 is formed by a member formed with an annular recess 171 and an outlet opening 172, the discharge end 151 of the exhuast duct 15 projecting into the member. Condensate collects in the annular recess 171 when the apparatus is started and the condensate is returned to the exhaust duct 15 through a return line 18 which is connected to the throat 191 of a Venturi device 19 formed in the exhaust duct. In place of a Venturi device, the suction return device may comprise a funnel shaped member disposed in the exhaust duct, the small end of the funnel pointing downstream. In Fig. 4, a return duct 20 is disposed around the exhaust duct 15, condensate returning from the separating chamber 171 to the exhaust duct through a radial opening 152. Once the apparatus has been operating for a short time the exhaust duct attains the temperature of the exhaust gases so that no condensate is formed and the condensate return device ceases to operate.
