Abstract
1283577 Ignition systems MOTOROLA Inc 11 Nov 1969 [27 Nov 1968] 55114/69 Heading F1B A capacitor discharge ignition system for an internal-combustion engine has a trigger circuit for discharging the capacitor 27 in timed relation to engine RPM and a generator device 11, 13 driven by the engine past a winding 17 to induce a voltage in the winding for charging the ignition capacitor, after the discharge thereof, and a transformer including the winding responsive to the passing of the generator device and a second winding 37 inductively coupled to the firstmentioned winding and connected to the ignition capacitor. The second winding is responsive to the discharge of the capacitor by the trigger circuit to produce a high voltage pulse in the firstmentioned winding, which is connected across a spark gap 21, to fire the engine. As shown an SCR 31 is controlled by a triggering winding 19. In a modification not shown the SCR is triggered by a pulse from a potential divider associated with the ignition capacitor.
