Abstract

1427741 Ignition systems BICOSA-SOC DE RECHERCHES 22 Jan 1973 [25 Jan 1972 12 April 1972 7 July 1972 11 Dec 1972] 3200/73 Heading F1B An electronic ignition device for igniting gas fuel, for example in a cigarette lighter, comprises a D.C. voltage source 4, voltage raising means connected to the source and to an ignition spark gap 1, the voltage raising means including oscillator means 10 connected to the source and operative for converting the D.C. voltage of the source into an oscillating voltage, switch means 5 having an activated condition and an unactivated condition, the switch means being operative upon activation to initiate operation of the oscillator means to cause the voltage raising to generate a spark voltage for connection across the spark gap 1 and terminating means including a timing capacitor 8 operative when the switch means is in activated condition for automatically terminating operation of the oscillator means by discharging the timing capacitor upon elapse of a predetermined time interval following the initiation of operation of the oscillator means, the switch means comprising means for connecting, when unactivated, the timing capacitor to the D.C. voltage source to charge the capacitor. The voltage raising means may comprise an inductance 11 wound on a ferrite core or a transformer. As shown the system includes a second capacitor 12 associated with a thyristor 25. The discharge of the capacitor 12 takes place automatically when the charging voltage of this capacitor reaches the break down voltage of the thyristor 25. In a modification (not shown) the gate of the thyristor 25 is associated with a Zener diode and a resistor. In a cigarette lighter comprising a case and cap, opening of the cap causes tilting of the switch and release of fuel gas from a reservoir of the lighter.
