Abstract

1423303 Detonating remote blasting, caps BENDIX CORP 26 Jan 1973. [2 Feb 1972] 4216/73 Heading H2H A circuit arrangement for detonating remote blasting caps comprises a first circuit 20. including a capacitor 160 which is dischargeable through the blasting caps when the capacitor charge reaches a predetermined level and a second circuit 10 which supplies electrical energy to the first circuit, the second circuit including a device 118 which indicates when the capacitor charge is approaching the predetermined level The circuit 20, which has terminals 190 for connection to the blasting caps, is connected by wires 21, 22 to the remote circuit 10. A switch 116 and resistors 111-115 enable the circuit resistance to be maintained constant when using wires 21, 22 of lengths up to 5000 feet. On application of A.C. to input terminals 131 the capacitor 160 is charged via a transformer 151, a capacitor 122 also charging to a voltage proportional to that across the capacitor 160. As the voltage across the capacitor 160 approaches the breakdown potential of a spark gap device 170, the voltage across the capacitor 122 becomes sufficient to illuminate the device 118 thereby warning an operation of the imminent discharge of the capacitor 160. The operator may open a switch 135 to allow discharge of the capacitor 160 through a resistor 161. Alternatively when the capacitor 160 charges to the predetermined level, the breakdown of the device 170 supplies trigger pulses to a spark gap device 180 to enable the discharge of the capacitor 160 into the blasting caps.
