Abstract

1282762 Pipe couplings; joint-making packing E BEYELER 29 Oct 1969 52917/69 Headings F2B and F2G A coupling for joining two tubes 1, 2 comprises two annular packing members 5, 6 fitted over the respective pipes and provided with annular lips 52, 62 and annular slits 53, 63 into which may be inverted frusto-conical metal rings 9, 10, the members 5, 6 being compressed axially and radially together by rings 3, 4 which are screwed &c. together to form a fluid-tight joint. The tightening of the rings 3, 4 axially compresses the lips 52, 62 against each other and rings 9, 10 against each other and against the ends of the pipes 1, 2, respectively, and radially compresses the lips 54, 64 against the respective tubes. The packing members 5, 6 may be made of materials such as rubber, metal or a synthetic material. The rings 3, 4, shown screw-threaded, may alternatively provide a bayonet &c. connection.
