Abstract

1282379 Piecing yarn MAREMONT CORP 7 Dec 1970 [17 March 1970] 58047/70 Heading DID A yarn-piecing apparatus having a yarn-entraining and -proffering roller 36, includes vacuum means 40, 42 for collating an end D of yarn with another end Y of yarn entrained over and having a depending threadline from the roller 36 for piecing therewith. The yarn end D issuing from between the nip of delivery rolls 12, 14 is aspirated into a vacuum tube 16. The yarn end Y, clamped and severed by jaws 26, 28, passes through a bifurcate guide 32, over the roller 36, and down past an open end mouth 42 of a vacuum tube 40. The mouth 42 has a bevelled opening in the downward direction with walls of rectangular section which may have linear outer faces or preferably have at their upper and lower opposing faces notches or grooves centered substantially in line with the bifurcate opening of guide 32 and having their apexes in line with the phantom line 42A. As the roller 36 approaches the rolls 12, 14 the yarn end Y is twisted producing an over twist and the yarn end D is licked out of the tube 16, then, as the roller 36 contacts roll 14, the yarn end Y is released and untwists and intertwines with the yarn end D collated therewith.
