Abstract
1281720 Vacuum degassing apparatus NIPPON KOKAN K K 22 July 1969 [23 July 1968] 36895/69 Heading C7D Metals are degassed by a vacuum treatment comprising inducing liquid metal into a vacuum chamber from a ladle via an induction pipe extending downwardly from said chamber into said metal, injecting an inert gas into said metal in said ladle from a point immediately below the end of the induction pipe at a pressure P o defined by: P A + pH 1 max >P o >P A + pH 1 min where P A is atmospheric pressure, p is the density of the metal, and H 1 max and H 1 min are the depths of metal in the ladle before and after the induction, and returning the metal to the ladle. In a modification, the process is a circulation degassing (R-H) process, and P o is defined by 3 (P A + pH) # P o # 1À05 (P A + pH) where H is the height of liquid metal in the ladle.
