Abstract

Freely-flowing material mixed in conduits.-In apparatus for mixing and moving concrete and other materials, the materials are charged into a hopper 1 having a discharge opening 2 provided with a conical valve 3 operated by a piston 4 working in a cylinder 6. Water is supplied to the hopper by a pipe 10 which communicates through a three-way cook 9 with the rising main 8 of an overhead tank 7. Compressed air is supplied to the underside of the piston 4 by a pipe 11 which communicates through a three-way cock 12 with the supply main 24. The cooks 9, 12 are connected together by a spindle provided with an operating-lever 15. When the valve 3 is opened, the materials pass over the valve into a chest 16 having at its lower end a conical lip 17 to direct the materials into a chamber 20 which consists of two conical portions fixed base to base and contains a cone or ridge 21 at the centre. Compressed air is supplied to the upper part of the chest 16 by a pipe 25, and the mixed materials are delivered and conveyed from the tubular branch 22 at the bottom of a chamber 20 by compressed air supplied by a pipe 26. Controlling-cocks 27, 28 are fitted on the pipes 25, 26, and a pipe 32 leading from the upper part of the chest 16 has a pressure indicator 31 on it.
