Abstract

620,612. Percussive drills. SOC. POUR LA MISE EN VALEUR DES BREVETS ET PROCEDES D'AEROSOLATION DU DOCTEUR DAUTREBANDE EURATMOS. Nov. 29, 1946, No. 35522. Convention date, Nov. 30, 1945. [Class 124] In a pneumatically-operated percussive drill 1, exhaust air from a space 10 is directed by a tube 29 against a jet of water or other liquid under pressure issuing from a tube 30 to form a cloud which is immediately discharged into the atmosphere surrounding the drill without the use of an extension of the exhaust pipe. The relative position of the tubes 29, 30 is adjusted by a screw 33. The liquid, which may be a viscous, sticking, froth-forming or neutralising solution, may be supplied by a flexible tube 31 connected to the base of a vessel 34 supplied, under the control of a tap 37, with compressed air or other pressure agent from an independent source or from the tube 36 supplying compressed air to the drill 1. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states also that (i) the invention is not limited in its application to drills, (ii) the drill cylinder and a rearwardly-directed jet connected to the exhaust air outlet may be surrounded by a sheath provided with a control valve whereby the dust is withdrawn by aspiration away from the drill steel into a disposal tube, (iii) the compressed air operating the drill may be charged with particles of liquid, pulverized solids, or aerosols produced as by means of the apparatus described in Specification 29292/46, as open to inspection under Sect. 91, (iv) the liquid of the aerosol may serve as lubricant for the drill, and (v) a sheath surrounding the drill may direct the aerosol-charged exhaust air towards the drill steel. This subject matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
