Abstract
576,982. Separating minerals by flotation. DAVEY, PAXMAN, & CO., Ltd., and WARD, F. H. ALLMAN-. April 21, 1944, No. 7419. [Class 82 (ii)] In the separation of minerals by froth flotation, the slurry is simultaneously agitated, mixed and aerated in a pressure tank by means of jets of compressed air introduced at the lower end of the tank, and then fed into a separating chamber at atmospheric pressure. As shown, a pressure tank 3 is supplied with the raw materials and flotation agent under pressure by a pump 25, and with air under pressure by one or more pumps 17 associated with a reservoir 19, a non-return valve 23, and a hand or automatically controlled throttle valve 24. The pump 17 directs air to a nozzle 16 which discharges one or more jets up a central tube 15. The outlet 4 from the tank 3 is regulated by a ball valve 5 chained to a pivotally mounted horse-shoe shaped float 6, and subjected also to hand control. The outlet 4 discharges directly into a double conical separating chamber 1. The froth flows over the outer edge of an annular opening 2 into an annular collecting trough' 9 with a downwardly inclined base leading to a discharge duct 10. The processwater and the residues pass, respectively, through and around a central pipe 11, into rectangular sealing pots 14, 13 provided with an overflow pipe for the water, and with conveyors, scrapers, or other mechanical means for the residues.
