Abstract
1,020,518. Mixing and aerating appliances; froth flotation apparatus. J. M. VOITH, G.m.b.H. May 31, 1963 [June 9, 1962], No. 21960/63. Headings B1C and B2H. In a froth flotation apparatus gas and liquid are delivered to the eye of an impeller through separate pipes, the pipe for the gas being connected to the liquid feeder tank at the level of the liquid surface. As shown, slurry is delivered to the eye of the impeller 12 by a pipe 9 and air by a pipe 14. The slurry is delivered from a tank 15 in which an approximately constant level 20 is maintained by flow over a weir 18. The air supply pipe 14 is also connected to tank 15 at the level 20 so that more slurry or more air is delivered to the impeller 12 according to the level 20 of the slurry surface, thus controlling fluctuations in level. Froth is discharged from the tank 1 by a rotating skimmer 4 into a trough 5, and liquid through a pipe 8. In modifications (see Figs. 3-8, not shown), the end of the pipe 14 may be arranged in the tank 15 as a standpipe, which may be surrounded by a bell the edge of which may be oblique or have a notch therein; the bell may be adjustable. Alternatively the end of the pipe 14 may be a downpipe in the tank 15 with an oblique edge at the level 20.
