Abstract

[Also in Divisions B8 and F2] A device for increasing the flow of fluids through an outlet, such as the bottom of a tank comprises a plate 10 Fig. 1, having an area substantially greater than an outlet 12, arranged on the inlet side and spaced from the outlet thereby the radial flow to the outlet is increased. A conically shaped member 14 is preferably provided to turn the radial flow into the outlet. A second orificed plate may be provided between the plate 10 and outlet and the edge of this orifice and outlet are preferably curved in the direction of flow. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, the plate 10 is provided with a curved orifice 20 and a nozzle 22 as described in Specification 831,114 is arranged in this orifice. In Fig. 5, a plate 37 and a member 34 are located in a funnel shaped outlet 32 of a pipe 30 extending upwards from a lake or reservoir. The passage 36 between the members 32, 34 is of constant cross-section. As the water level rises it flows into the passage 36 and the plate prevents filling of the funnel 32 which would retard flow.
