Abstract

1,222,820. Valves. R. E. L. IZOD. 26 Nov., 1968 [2 Dec., 1967], No. 54912/67. Heading F2V. [Also in Division F1] A valve 1 for closing the outlet from a tank 7 if the level in the tank falls below a predetermined level comprises an annular float 23, of copper or of nylon or other plastics material, secured to a tube 25, as of brass, which slides on a central stem 3 to close a transverse bore 33 leading to an outlet bore which extends either to the top of the valve or, as shown at 9, to the bottom. A sleeve 17, preferably of gauze or perforated brass, secured between collars 13, 15, acts as a filter and also as a baffle to reduce the effect on the float 23 of surface turbulence in the tank. The valve may be provided with a controlled leak, as by means of a small by-pass bore in the stem 3.
