Classes 78 (1) and 78 (4) A container 15 is discharged by introducing gas up through surfaces 17, 20 therein so that material is fluidized and flows to an outlet, the rate of flow through the steeper surface 20 being less than that through the other surface 17. These surfaces may be made of porous material (by felt between layers of canvas and faced with slitted sheet metal) of even porosity, the air supply to surfaces 20 being choked by valve 23 ; or surfaces 20 may be made of a porous material which is denser than that of surface 17 so as to cause the lesser flow. Specification 675,113 is referred to.
