Abstract

1279414 Valves UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 24 Oct 1968 [6 Nov 1968 22 July 1969] 52708/68 and 36897/69 Heading F2V A valve for use in controlling the flow of cooling water in nuclear reactors has an axially movable closure member 1 and co-operating seat 2 formed with concentri annular lands which intermesh during valve closure. The closure is guided on a post 8 and is moved by an arm 11 on an actuating rod 13 to which a similar arm 11 actuating a similar valve in an array of valves is connected. The rod 13 is moved by two double acting piston-cylinders (42), (46) to which fluid is fed by valve chest (53), (54) and solenoidoperated valves (57) (61). Normal actuation is by valve chest (53) and piston-cylinder (46) while emergency operation is by valve 61 and piston-cylinder (42).
