Abstract

978,455. Valves. JUNKERS & CO. G.m.b.H. May 28, 1963 [June 9, 1962 (2); Feb. 25, 1963], No. 21202/63. Heading F2V. Initial opening movement of a valve member 12 slightly lifts a plate part 13 from its seat 111 and forces a seal 17 carried by a depending piston part 14 against a retarding means formed by a protruding lip 20 in a bore 15 which houses the part 14. During the next phase of valve opening the part 13 lifts further from its seat and the seal 17 is forced over the lip 20 and past the inner end(s) of one or more auxiliary passages 18 which connect the bore 15 with the seat 111 whereby a pilot flow of fluid, e.g. gas, takes place from the bore 15 through passage 18. The last phase of valve opening occurs when the part 14 is lifted out of the bore 15 to provide for full flow therethrough. In various modifications, the seal is located in the bore and the pilot passage(s) and retarding means are formed on the piston part. The retarding means may be a groove instead of a lip, and nozzle inserts may be used in the auxiliary passage(s) to provide the desired cross-section(s).
