Abstract

1278563 Tube supports for fluid heaters FOSTER WHEELER Ltd 19 April 1971 [3 Feb 1970] 5116/70 Heading F4S In a process fluid heater (10, Fig. 1) comprising an enclosure (12) heated by burners (16) and lined with horizontal tubes 14, the tubes 14 pass through and are supported, at one or more intermediate points, by a pair of parallel spaced vertical plates 40 which define therebetween a zone 42 through which cooling air can pass. The surface of the plates 40 facing the enclosure 12 is covered with a refractory insulation layer 48; a similar layer 50 covers the enclosure walls 30 to which the plates 40 are connected through corner brackets 44. The tubes, in the zone 42, are surrounded by short sleeves 52 which are welded to the plates 40 so as to keep the enclosure 12 air-tight. As shown the lefthand side of zone 42 is open to the atmosphere thereby permitting air to circulate by convection through the zone so cooling the plates 40. Tubes (20, Fig. 1) surrounding a central partition (18) within the enclosure are supported in a similar manner (see Fig. 4, not shown).
