Abstract

1,194,330. Gas fired space heaters; space heating radiators. PARKINSON COWAN Ltd. 13 Oct., 1967 [18 Oct, 1966], No. 46506/66. Heading F4B, F4S and F4W. A gas-fired space heating unit for use in drying or firing kilns comprises a rectangular radiant panel 4 including corrugated front and rear walls 14, 12 respectively and containing a gas burner bar 22, and a rectangular metal frame 2 in which the panel 4 is detachably held by pins 6 held in brackets 8. The walls 12, 14 converge towards combustion gas outlet slots 18, and the burner 22 is removable with a coverplate 28. A layer 40 of heat insulating glass fibre is provided, which layer increases in thickness towards the top of the panel. A gap 46 between the layer 40 and panel 4 permits a convection air flow to outlet slots 43. A removable cover-plate 48 is provided with rows of slots at top and bottom for a convection cooling air flow. The layer 40 may abut the rear wall 12 of the panel in which case the lower slots in plate 48 are omitted and air flow through the upper slots forms at least part of the combustion air. The slots 43 may be omitted in this case. A wall of such heating units may be constructed by bolting together their abutting frames 2. A thermocouple 64 controls the burner 22.
