A heating apparatus for buildings comprises a space heater for heating the area or room in which the apparatus is situated and a liquid heater for heating liquid in a circulation system connected to the apparatus, the space and liquid heaters each having independent gas burners and controls. In the form shown, the space heater and liquid heater, consisting respectively of a radiant element 19 and spaced hollow castings 4, 5 mounted behind the element are respectively fired by individually controllable gas burners 23, 11. The hot gases from the burner 23 pass from an opening adjacent the element 19, through a front passage 25 formed between a removable refractory element support 20 and a corrugated front plate 24 with an extending inclined edge portion 24a, through a top passage 26 in the castings 4, 5, and through a rear passage or chamber 85 to the chimney outlet 86. The second burner 11 for the liquid heater is positioned beneath a slot in a lower plate 9, the hot gases from this burner passing upwardly through the space between the castings to heat the liquid in the castings 4, 5, which are formed with integral projections 6 on their opposed faces, to the top passage 26 and thence to the chimney 86. The chimney outlet is disposed at the upper end of the rear passage 85 and this passage is connected at its lower end to a duct forwardly extending to the boiler front and positioned beneath the burners so that an up or a down draught of air will not affect the burners.
