Abstract

1,148,567. Supports for tubular elements; fluid heaters. SELAS CORPORATION OF AMERICA. 11 May, 1967 [17 June, 1966], No. 22030/67. Heading F4A and F4S. A fluid heater comprises a furnace chamber provided with burners 5 and containing two serpentine tube coils 6, 7 fed with fluid to be heated from pipes 8, 9 respectively and discharging into a common outlet pipe 10. The horizontal passes of the tubes are supported at spaced locations on arms 17 extending from tube supports 11, each tube support being pivotedly attached to a hanger plate 13 extending through the roof 3 of the chamber from structural steel work 12. On expansion of the horizontal tube passes on heating, the supports 11 swing with them to relieve the expansion stresses. Small knobs (18, Fig. 3) welded on to the bottom of the lowest and therefore hottest tube lengths engage the support arms to cause the pivoting of the support 11 as the tubes expand.
