Abstract
1277491 Ladles STOECKER & KUNZ GmbH 17 Feb 1960 [27 Feb 1969] 10571/69 Heading F4B A ladle 2 includes a gas-tight annex chamber 4 offset from but communicating laterally with the interior of the ladle 2 through a duct 6, the chamber 4 having a replaceable refractory teeming nozzle 7, and a refractory stopper rod 9 extending through the chamber to open and close the nozzle 7. In the embodiment shown, the rod 9 is attached to steel bellows 11 capable of a vertical stroke corresponding to the distance between the closed and open positions of the stopper rod 9. In operation, a volume of gas is trapped in the enclosure formed by the shell 5 of the chamber and the bellows, thus protecting the stopper rod and also providing, by means of a pressure gauge, an accurate indication of the metal level in the ladle. The bellows may be replaced by a rigid gas-tight box (Fig. 5, not shown) having a gland through which an extension of the stopper rod 9 passes, leaving only enough clearance for sliding.
