Abstract
781,277. Casting-machines. STEWARTS & LLOYDS, Ltd. April 7, 1955 [June 15, 1954], No. 5276/57. Divided out of 781,276. Class 83 (1). Molten metal is shielded from the ambient air by an inert gas, in its passage from a ladle 1 to a mould 7, by an open-ended housing 8 having an inlet for inert gas and, at its upper end, an annular chamber 9, 10 for a layer of sand 11 or other sealing medium into which a lip 12, depending from the ladle and surrounding the ladle outlet, dips, the lower end of the housing 8 itself dipping into a similar seal 13 on the top of the mould, or on the trumpet in the case of bottom-pouring. When bottom-pouring, the top of each mould may be closed by a coverplate having a restricted outlet.
