Abstract

1276094 Ingot moulds FOSECO TRADING AG 8 Aug 1969 [16 Aug 1968] 39405/68 Heading B3F [Also in Division C3] A one-piece hot top lining 2 of integral construction has an outwardly tapering shoulder 4 and is made of a flexible heat insulating material. The shoulder 4 enables a cover 5 to be placed upon an ingot mould 1. The shoulder at 6 also covers the ingot mould top to protect it from molten metal splashes. The lining may also be used with a head box (not shown) when it covers the bottom edge of the head box to replace the usual metallic wiper ring. The composition of the hot top is (by weight): Aluminosilicate fibre .. 45% Diatomaceous earth.. .. 25% Paper pulp .. .. .. 15% Amosite asbestos .. .. 15% which is used as a fibrous mat. Before use the mat is impregnated with 4 times its own weight of SiO 2 sol. to render it flexible.
