Abstract

1,261,851. Ingot moulds. FOSECO TRADING A.G. 6 Jan., 1971 [6 Jan., 1970], No. 638/70. Heading B3F. Ingot mould heads or head-boxes are lined with flexible insulating or exothermic slabs or sleeves which do not conform to the internal cavity contours of the mould or head-box. The slabs or sleeves are placed in the ingot mould or head-box cavity and only their lower portions are deformed to abut and conform to the cavity contour. In the Figure, a slab 3 is deformed at its lower end against the corrugated wall 2 of an ingot mould by a bent metal strip 4. The strip may be removed before pouring or left on as a chill. When lining a head-box, the slab or sleeve can be bent over the lower surface of the headbox to form a seal between the mould and headbox. A hoop of resilient wire can be mounted around the sleeve base and the hoop can then be forced outwards to deform the sleeve against the mould or head-box wall.
