Abstract
PURPOSE:To facilitate improvement of abrasion-resistance only on a surface layer by arranging ceramic grains in the vicinity of the inner wall of a mold cavity, and making pressurized casting of molten metal under a condition of the whole mold heated, so as to fill the gaps among the ceramic grains with the molten metal. CONSTITUTION:SiC grain layer 2 of about 5mm thickness is formed on the inner wall of the cavity of an inorganic self-hardening mold 4 by attaching, for example, an even mixture of 100wt. part of SiC grains and 5 part of 5% aqueous solution of water glass thereto, and drying it for solidification. The mold is then set in dies 5, 6, and hot air of about 600 deg.C is forced to blow from the center part 6a of an upper die 6 therein so that the SiC grain layer 2 is heated to about 500 deg.C. Further, molten cast iron 3 at 1400 deg.C, for instance, is poured from the top of the mold 4 followed by application of the compressed air from the top of the molten metal 3, thereby the molten cast iron is press- filled into the gaps among SiC grains. The casting is then finished by removing the mold 4 after the molten metal 3 is solidified.
