Abstract
1,009,050. Ingot moulds. SANDVIKENS JERNVERKS A.B. May 22, 1962 [May 25, 1961; Sept. 8, 1961], No. 19657/62. Heading B3F. A hot top slab comprises an angled lower portion and a bottom edge constituting a side face intended to contact the wall of the mould, and the end of the slab comprises a flange to hook over the top of the mould to enable the slab to depend from the mould with at least a lower portion of the slab spaced apart from the mould. The slabs, which may be faced or covered with exothermic material may be suspended from the top by the flange portions 13, Fig. 1, and maintained in position by wedges 15. The slabs may be curved, Fig. 5, and have a protrusion 22, Fig. 6, on the side facing the metal. The slabs are made of a finely divided refractory such as quartz, olivine, a finely divided organic material such as paper pulp, and a glue such as a resin glue. Asbestos, rock wool or other fibrous refractory may be added.
