Abstract
1,072,804. Ingot moulds. SANDVIKENS JERNVERKS A.B. Aug. 26, 1964 [Sept. 2, 1963], No. 34943/64. Heading B3F. A hot top assembly in an ingot mould comprises a first pair of opposed slabs 11, 11a placed close to the mould wall and having at least partly upwardly converging side edges, and a second pair of opposed slabs 12, 12a which are at least partly inclined and rest on said side edges. The second pair of slabs may have a curved cross-section. Fig. 4, or an angular cross-section, Fig. 5, engaging correspondingly shaped side edges of the first pair of slabs. The hot top may be prevented from rising with the melt by a frame 28 held by wedges 31, Fig. 4, or by wedging members 33, Fig. 5, or the space behind the inclined slabs may be filled with a filler member, a hollow support member or a solid support member which may be east iron, concrete or brick. The slabs of the hot top may be of a fine grained refractory such as quartz or olivene, with minor quantities of an organic fibrous material such as paper-pulp, a binder such as a synthetic resin glue and a fibrous refractory such as asbestos.
