Abstract

956,525. Ingot moulds. SANDVIKENS JERVERKS A.B. May 22, 1962 [May 25, 1961], No. 19658/62. Heading B3F. A hot top comprises a number of relatively thin heat-insulating slabs and a plate or frame lying within the hot top and urging the slabs against the mould wall, the plate or frame being supported by means on the slabs. Relatively thin slabs 11, Fig. 1, are secured in the mould 10 by wedges 13 and a frame 20 which rests on protrusions 16 and floats on the rising melt. The frame may be replaced by a plate having vent holes which covers the surface of the melt. In modifications, Fig. 4, the frame or plate has upturned edges. The frame or plate may be coated with exothermic material on the underside.
