Abstract
1275975 Valves RELF RESEARCH Ltd 5 Aug 1969 [6 Aug 1968 22 Oct 1968] 39072/69 Heading F2V The closure member of a pressure regulating valve is controlled by a flexible tubular pressure sensitive member which elongates or contracts linearly as it changes to or from an ellipsoidal form in response to pressure changes. Closure member 4 (Fig. 1) is moved towards nozzle 3 by inflation of flexible sleeve 8 against the action of spring 7 by upstream pressure communicated through slots 5b which guide a throttling member 5 acted upon by sliding member 6 secured to the free end of sleeve 8. In a modification (Fig. 2) closure member 20 is moved by a member 23 secured to the free end of ellipsoidal member 21 which is deflated by the upstream pressure in chamber 16, against the action of spring 22. In further modification (not shown) the tubular member can be of triangular or trapezoidal cross-section and can be pressurized by external means under manual control.
