Abstract

1275451 Transhipping at sea; arrangements Of pulleys PEACOCK BROS Ltd 4 June 1969 [28 Oct 1968] 28299/69 Headings B8B and B8E A kingpost for high-line transfer of loads has a padeye 20, Fig. 1, which is moved up and down the post by chains 33, 34 which are attached to the padeye at points in front of and behind the central axis of the kingpost. The chains are attached to fixed points 35, 36 on the kingpost and pass over pulleys 31, 32 at the top and bottom of the kingpost and pulleys 29, 30 attached to a nut 28 which moves up and down a screw 25 when the latter is rotated by a motor 24. Fig. 2 shows the arrangement of pulleys and chains viewed along the section II-II of Fig. 1. The padeye has rollers 45, 46, Fig. 3, which engage guides 16 on the kingpost and is provided with a link 21, pivoted about a horizontal axis, to which the high-line is shackled. The chains are attached to the padeye, Fig. 4, by plates 55, 56, pivoted to a shaft 54 supported by a bar 52. Tensioning of the chains is effected by nuts 57. Limit switches are provided on the kingpost to switch the motor driving the padeye to a lower speed as the padeye approaches the extremities of the king- post. An overload device cuts off the supply to the motor if the latter begins to stall when the padeye reaches the end of its travel.
