Abstract

1,273,234. Centrifugal compressors. GARRETT CORP. April 15, 1969 [April 16, 1968], No. 19183/69. Heading F1C. A centrifugal compressor includes a casing formed in two parts 12, 13, Fig. 1, clamped together with a radial intermediate plate 22 therebetween which co-operates with part 12 to define a diffuser passageway. The plate has at least three spacer pins 37 co-operating with recesses 44 in part 12, or is spaced from the part 12 by a series of vanes (46), Fig. 3 (not shown). In the latter case at least one pin and associated recess may be retained to prevent relative rotation between the plate and port 12. The port 12 and the plate have stiffening flanges 15, 40 respectively, and in the unclamped but assembled state of the casing the flanges 31, 32 of the ports 12, 13 are spaced by a gap (36), Fig. 2 (not shown), e.g. of 0À01 inches. Thus clamping-up by ring 20 necessitates a slight deformation of the wall 18 of the part 13.
