Abstract
1,271,492. Regenerative heat exchangers. CLARKE CHAPMAN-JOHN THOMPSON Ltd. 24 April, 1969 [29 April, 1968], No. 20295/68. Heading F4K. Apparatus for heating air, e.g. for ducted air heating systems, comprises a casing C having an inlet 2 for air drawn by a fan 1, a portion of which passes through passages in a disc-type rotary regenerator 5 into a plenum chamber 6, and the heating medium for the regenerator is generated by a burner 12 in a lower combustion chamber 11, means being provided to purge the heating medium from the regenerator before it passes to the air heating side. The heating medium passes through the end faces of the regenerator to an outlet duct 14 and elongated slots (not shown) formed in cover-plates 18, 19, respectively, that open on to the opposed faces of the gas side of the disc allow air from a space 10 about the combustion chamber to pass through the disc 5 to the outlet duct 14 to drive out combustion products remaining therein. A portion of the air to be heated by-passes the rotor through holes 7 in the cover-plate 18 to move directly into the plenum chamber 6 for mixing with the heated air and eventual discharge through an outlet 8.
