Abstract
1347378 Thermal regenerators AERO-FLOW DYNAMICS Inc 1 Dec 1971 [3 Dec 1970] 55747/71 Heading F4K In a space heater comprising a rotary regenerative heat exchanger disc 11 mounted in a housing 10 divided by a vertical partition 13 into two separate passages 15, 16 for the flow of air to be heated and combustion products respectively, the air to be heated is caused to flow upwardly through the disc 11 and passage 15 by means of a centrifugal fan 17 to exit as heated air via a distribution duct connection 20 provided with a discharge grille. A gas-fired burner 24 is mounted at the top of a combustion chamber 23 disposed in the upper part of the passage 16 above a horizontal baffle 22. Air for combustion and dilution purposes enters the heater through a series of screened openings 26 and is caused to flow upwards into a plenum 27 above the combustion chamber. Combustion products together with dilution air pass downwardly through the regenerator disc and are exhausted through an outlet 32 by means of a fan 30. A seal is provided between the partition wall 13 and the disc 11, the seal being formed by strips of metal foil 33, 34, 35. The strip 35 is clamped to the end of a horizontal extension 36 on one side of the wheel to define a purge section for the passage of air from the fan 17 through a portion of the disc into the passage 16 to mix with the combustion products.
