Abstract

1441793 Air heating units; air curtains DISCO ENG Inc 9 Nov 1973 [10 Nov 1972] 52199/73 Headings F4K and F4V In a burner-fired air heating module, air is caused by at least one blower 32 to flow through a housing 12 having an air inlet 26, 34 and containing a burner-fired combustion chamber 54 with a profile (shown as of aerofoil cross-section with apertures 67 in the wall thereof; see also Fig. 11) such that the air stream induces a flow of combustion gases out of the combustion chamber via said apertures, into the air stream, the mixture of air and combustion gases flowing out of the housing through an outlet 28. The combustion chamber may be fed from a burner unit at one or both sides of the casing 12 (see Fig. 5); and it may extend vertically or horizontally. The combustion chamber wall preferably comprises an aluminized steel alloy outer layer 58 and an inner layer or lining 56 of ceramic material such as alumina silica fibres. The module may for example be attached to a wall W to heat incoming fresh air (Figs. 3A and 12) and the heated air together with the aspirated combustion products, may be ducted to the point of use (e.g. Figs. 12 and 13). Figs. 8 and 9 show a module adapted to provide a gas curtain (predominantly air) and comprising a superstructure 90 from which hollow legs 86, 88 project downwardly and have slots 138 therein for the discharging hot air and combustion gas mixture forming the curtain. Air is drawn by fans 116, 118 through an inlet 92 of the structure 90, and is heated in passing over twin combustion chambers 104, 106. The mixture of heated air and aspirated combustion gases enters the fans and is discharged therefrom into the legs 86, 88.
