Abstract

There is a chamber (1) from which material is pushed by a piston (3) into a combustion chamber (6) with a perforated grate (9) and bottom discharge outlet (12) for solids, and from which the combustion gases are passed into a recombustion chamber (14) above where they are mixed with air from a blower (16) and heated by a burner (15) which raises the temperature of the gas and air mixture to about 900 deg.C. The gases are blown by air preheated by another burner (17) through a restricted, turbulence inducing outlet (19) to burn at about 1200 deg.C, then enter an expansion chamber (20) which can include a heat recovery system, and mix with to cooling air. They are then discharged through a conduit (22) into a washing chamber, passing under sprays (23) as they do so.
