Abstract

1,270,187. Metal clad switchgear; electric component assemblies. S. & C. ELECTRIC CO. 29 May, 1970 [16 Sept., 1969], No. 26037/70. Heading H1N. An enclosure for a switch as claimed in Specification 1,270,189, has a slidable top panel 65 overlying and preventing, in its normal position, the sliding of end panels 55, 56, 69 (67, 68). Locks 42, (43) are mounted inside panels 53, 52 and comprise a pivoted hasp 81 which has a slot 85 engaging a staple 86 and a projection (95) which engages in a slot (96) in a member (97) bolted to the top panel, Fig. 16 (not shown). The top panel has inturned flanges 115, 116 engaging flanges 117, 119 of support members 104, 118 and acting as limits, whereas further flanges (122) on the slidable end panels engage inclined surfaces (125), acting as stops, on guide members (126) secured to the bottom of flanges 127 of the side walls, Figs. 10, 11, 11A (not shown). Fuse drawer 61 is withdrawable but is lockable by means of the hasp 81 of lock 64 engaging the staple 103. Balls 112 under the panel 65 provide a frictionless sliding motion. A mechanical maze construction is provided along the adjacent edges of the panels by means of the various interlocking flanges, so as to prevent the entry of foreign matter. Windows 134 in the front frame member 104 allow inspection of the switch assembly. A single phase assembly may replace the three phase assembly shown, Figs. 1-4 (not shown).
