Abstract
126,928. Mathy, M. Feb. 17, 1919. Tools.-A tool for grinding bottle necks and stoppers consists of a piece of sheet iron shaped into the form of a hollow truncated cone 1 with a slit 3 down one of its sides. The tool is held by its own elasticity upon a wooden former 4, Fig. 2, screwed into a rotating spindle 5. The elasticity of the tool is maintained in operation owing to the fact that the former does not extend the whole length of the cone. For grinding bottle necks, the tool is carried by a vertical rotating shaft moved axially by rack-and-pinion gear into engagement with the bottle, which is clamped to a fixed table. For grinding stoppers, Fig. 4, the tool is elastically held in a cylindrical hole formed in a carrier 23 mounted on an horizontal rotating shaft 24, and the stopper is inserted by hand. Water and abrading-powder are supplied to the tool as required, the excess flowing away through the slit 3.
