Abstract

1,264,289. Sound reducing panels. GYPROC A.B. 9 Sept., 1970 [10 Sept., 1969], No. 43193/70. Heading B5N. A sound reducing covering panel comprises two boards 1, 2 of substantially the same planar size joined in face to face relationship by spacer elements 3 which maintain a space 5 between the boards which is relatively small with respect to the thickness of the boards, said spacer elements 3 comprising cords having at least approximately a round cross-section and containing strands extending obliquely in relation to the longitudinal direction of the cords, the cords being stretched and secured between the boards in parallel, widely spaced relationship by an adhesive which remains elastic after hardening, at least one of said boards being of low flexural strength so that it is capable of producing waves of a wavelength shorter than that of sound when under the influence of sound transmitted thereto. The board(s) having low flexural strength may be gypsum plasterboard. The strands of the cord may be twisted or braided. The adhesive may be applied by soaking the cords in a bath of a semi-fluid elastomer. The adhesive forms a recessed fillet 4 as a result of capillary action and is firmly adhered to both the board basis and cord. The outermost cords between the boards may be located inwardly of the edges in order to leave a groove and the board intended to face into the room may have bevelled edges which project beyond the second board in order to obscure fixing means F.
