A cladding for a building surface comprises a plurality of panels 2, 3, 4, Fig. 1, in the form of trays arranged side by side and held together to form an assembly by wires 9 extending through the sides 6 of the trays and behind the exposed surfaces of the panels. The wires 9 may be fixed at one end to eyes 10 on frame members 11 secured to the wall and at the other end may be attached to turnbuckles 12 for tensioning the wires, the turnbuckles being fixed to a bracket 13 projecting from the wall. The panels are provided with inter-engaging flanges 7 and the sides 6 may be either at right angles or inclined with respect to the facing surfaces 5 of the trays. The sides 6 are formed with holes 8 to receive the wires, and these holes may either be closed as in Fig. 2 or may be of open ended key hole form as at 18, Fig. 5, when they are provided with slotted rotatable grommets 20 of flexible or semi-flexible material which secure the wires in the holes. The panels may be of sheet metal with or without vitreous enamel, moulded resin bonded plywood, rigid polythene, polypropylene or timber, and may have a perforated face.
