Abstract

791,706. Panels. RENARD, G. Oct. 21, 1955 [Oct. 23, 1954; Nov. 19, 1954], No. 30092/55. Classes 20(4) and 87(1) A rectangular panel 1, Fig. 29, capable of being assembled with other similar panels to form structures, has each of its sides provided with a rectangular flange 2, 3, 4, 5, perpendicular to the plane of the panels, three or more of the flanges being shorter than the corresponding sides of the panel to provide gaps adjacent each of the four corners of the panel. As shown each flange is shorter than its corresponding side. In a modification one of the flanges is of the same length as the corresponding side, the opposite flange is shortened at each end and the other flanges are each shortened at one end. The flanges may be made of double thickness by bending back the material upon itself. Holes 10, 11 may be provided for the passage of bolts or screws to connect panels together, or to connecting or strengthening members. Such members may be of triangular form, Fig. 34, for connection in the corners of the panels, or of angle or channel form. The latter may be used as at 25<SP>1</SP> in Fig. 21 to connect two panels face to face and a pair of such combinations side by side. Alternatively a pair of channel members may be used as in Fig. 22 to connect two panels face to face. A connecting member may be formed by securing a box-like member of sheet metal at right angles to a channel member. A U-shaped moulding 13, Fig. 19, may be secured by the head 19 of a screw 20 to a flange 3 of a panel 1 to cover the holes in a flange which are not otherwise used and to decorate the construction. The panels, which may be used for building tables in combination with cabinets, cupboards, files or other furniture or may be used as shuttering, may be formed of metal, plastics or concrete.
