The mould halves (not shown) of a casting machine have a horizontal parting plane and, after an initial opening movement, a carrier 5 for the upper mould half, guided by and between side standards (1), 2, pivots (because it contacts a rear bar 11) so that the mould half is swung up to face the operator while a carrier 6 for the lower mould half swings downwardly for a similar presentation of that mould half. In the form shown, a guide 3 for the upper carrier 5 and on which it is pivoted, slides in the standards (1), 2 and is raised by hydraulic cylinders (4) for opening. Arms 13 connect the guide 3 to a bar 8 (against which rests the lower carrier 6) so that the bar is raised (as guided by non-linear grooves 12 in the standards) with the carrier 5 and finally allows the carrier 6 to pivot on a bar 7 under its own weight. Alternatively, the carriers 5, 6 may be moved by independent pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders, the upper carrier 5 being guided in non-linear grooves.
