Abstract

1,261,496. Cold-cathode tubes. IKOR Inc. 16 March, 1970, No. 12588/70. Heading H1D. A pulse generator comprises an elongated envelope 20 with an oxygen-containing filling at superatmospheric pressure enclosing axial conductors 28, 40, 34 providing a discharge gap 42 and a charge-storage section 40 immediately adjoining said gap, a resistive impedance 38 being coupled between the charge-storage section 40 and conductor 34. The envelope 20, which may be of copper or stainless steel or alternatively of glass or ceramic surrounded by an electrically conductive shield, has a sealable port 22 for introducing the filling, e.g. air at a pressure of 50 p.s.i. Conductors 28 and 34 are insulated from the envelope by bushings 30, 36 of glass or P.T.F.E. and the end faces of conductors 28 and 40 forming the gap 42 may be of tungsten. Charge-storage section 40 is supported by microwave energy absorbing material 44, e.g. an epoxy resinous filler, which may be slotted to allow uniform gas pressure distribution. Alternatively the material 44 may be omitted.
