Abstract

995,095. Discharge lamps. PATENTTREUHAND - GES FUR ELEKTRISCHE GLUHLAMPEN. Jan. 15, 1962 [Jan. 16, 1961], No. 1380/62. Heading H1D. A medium or high-pressure discharge lamp comprises a tubular envelope 9 with end portions 11 of reduced crosssection, each end portion being closed at its outer end to form a seal 3 through which a lead-in conductor passes in a vacuumtight manner, electrode supporting rods 1 which are connected to or form part of the lead-in conductors and which carry at their free end an electrode 2, and at least one cylindrical sleeve 7 which surrounds the electrode supporting rod, which is fused with the wall of the envelope, and which is constructed in such a manner that a clearance is left between the electrode supporting rod and the surrounding sleeve. The sleeve 7 can have on its outer cylindrical surface grooves or slots 8, Fig. 3e, extending in an axial direction from one end face to the other of the sleeve. The sleeve can also have bores 19 parallel to the sleeve axis. The sleeve 7 can be divided into partial sleeves arranged spaced apart. Methods of construction are described. The end portion of the envelope can be continuous with the main portion as shown in Fig. 1b, or can be joined thereto as shown in Fig. 1c The envelope can be evacuated and filled through the end portion of the envelope. Various end seal constructions are described. The filling can be rare gas.
