Abstract

1,260,938. Straightening. WILHELMSBURGER MASCHINENFABRIK HINRICHS & SON. 18 April, 1969 [20 April, 1968], No. 19857/69. Heading B3E. A panel straightening machine for thin sheet metal comprises groups of upper straightening rolls mounted in two chocks tiltable about a common axis at the bottom ends of their neighbouring sides, whereas the top of each chock is pivotally attached to at least two and preferably at least four press rods permitting each of the chocks to be tilted relatively to a row of lower straightening rolls and to the other chock by rotation about their common axis. The machine comprises a frame 1 consisting of columns 2 and a cross-head 3 carrying screw-down jacks 7, 8 and 9. Each jack carries a slidable guide block 10 and a press rod pivoted to one or other of the roll-carrying chocks 20, 21. The guide block of the centre jack has a balancing rocker 18 for carrying two press rods 16, 17 pivoted to chocks 20, 21 respectively. The straightening roll 25 forms a pivot about which the two chocks can tilt. The bottom bank of rolls 32 to 40 is so aligned that the axis 41 of roll 40 is in the line of thrust 42 of the jack 9. The outside end of the chock 20 is guided by a slideway 46 which allows vertical and horizontal movement. The chock 21 is guided by a slipper member 51 which only reciprocates vertically. The machine permits adjustment of the entry rolls 22, 32 by raising the leading end of the chock 20 to accommodate a wide range of panel thickness.
