Abstract
1,260,834. Garment stiffeners. FUTTERS (LONDON) Ltd. 31 March, 1969 [1 April, 1968], No. 15566/68. Heading A3V. [Also in Division B5] A stiffener for a garment comprises a strip 1 of relatively stiff plastics material moulded to a flexible backing material 2. The backing may form part of the garment itself or it may be a woven fabric or other sheet material suitable for attachment, e.g. by sewing, to the garment. The strip 1 may be straight as, for example, in a belt or a corset or curved in the form of a half-loop as for example in a brassiere. In the latter case a single half loop is suitable for one cup of the brassiere and a second half-loop may be moulded on to the same or a separate backing material. A single moulded strip may be formed from two sideby-side half loops joined at adjacent ends by a bridge-piece or an inverted V-piece. The strip may stand up from the surface of the backing on one or both sides or it may be embedded in the backing. The backing material may be cotton, e.g. poplin, silk, or other woven material, or a sheet material, e.g. a plastics film or a netting material and the strip 1 may be of acetal plastics material.
