Abstract
1,258,988. Ladders. A. E. W. DUMPER. 23 Dec., 1969, No. 44422/69. Heading E1S. An extending lazy-tong ladder is made up of square or oblong tubular frames pivotally connected together in pairs, each pair being connected to the adjacent pair by a rung at each side which rung surrounds the appropriate frame members, and sits on a base extending longitudinally at right angles to the rungs, to which base the lowest frames are movably connected. These frames are carried in vertical ratchets 5 movable by brackets 9 carrying pinions 4 which pass through the ratchets 5 and engage racks on each side thereof. Spindles 6 also pass through the ratchets 5, and engage inwardly directed channel members in the base, which also guide the ends of spindles 7 passing through the brackets 9. Spindles 6 and 7 carry end rollers.
