Abstract

1,258,927. Hydrostatic power transmission. BRITISH MOTOR CORP. Ltd. 19 Jan., 1970 [30 Nov., 1968], No. 56960/68. Heading B7H. A motor vehicle is driven by at least one pair of wheel-motors connected to at least one hydrostatic pump driven by a steam engine mounted in a structural member 1 of the chassis. As shown, a steam engine 9 drives pumps 10 and 11 of the type having spring- loaded inlet and delivery valves which deliver oil to a pipe 12 connected to chassis parts 1A, 1B. The parts 1A, 1B convey oil to individual wheel motors 7 through ducts 13 in suspension parts 4 and 5. Oil is returned from the wheel motors 7 through passages 14 to passages 15 connected to the pump inlets. The steam engine 9 which may be an axial-piston steam engine or free piston steam engine as described in Specification 1,258,926 is connected to a steam generator 20 having a fuel pump and blower 29. A steam turbine drives an alternator 25 and cooling fans 26 adjacent a condenser 27.
