Abstract
1,258,584. Ignition control for burners. ELECTRIC CONSTRUCTION CO. Ltd. 24 June, 1970 [24 March, 1969], No. 15249/69. Headings F4F and F4T. An ignition control system for a gas burner fed with an induced fuel gas/air mixture from a centrifugal fan, includes an ignition unit 13, a solenoid valve, preferably controlled by an AND gate 23 and having switch'15 energized by a thyristor, and a circuit to hold the valve open only in response to the simultaneous receipt of two signals; the first via an OR gate 27 from a flame sensor or an ignition timer 26, and the second from a fan-draught sensor which during an initial starting period is held off by a pretimer 21, such that if the fan or the flame fails the burner will shut down. The fan-draught may be sensed by its cooling effect on a preheated thermistor. When the system is switched on ignition timer 26 will feed the AND gate 23 but the pretimer 21 will inhibit any signal from the fan-draught sensor until the rate of gas supply has built up, at which point the pre-timer shuts down and AND gate 23 receives two signals to open the solenoid valve. If ignition occurs the flame sensor supplies a signal to hold the valve open but if not, the ignition timer 26, and hence igniter 13, will shut-down after a predetermined ignition time.
