Abstract
921,343. Controlling burners. WEBASTOWERK G.m.b.H. Sept. 11, 1961 [Sept. 13, 1960], No. 32580/61. Class 75 (1). [Also in Group XIII] A heating and ventilating device for a vehicle comprises a liquid fuel burner 17, an electric motor 8 driving a ventilation blower 14, a combustion blower 16 and a fuel pump 15, an electromagnetic fuel valve 20, a first switch 7 controlling the motor, a second switch 24 controlling the fuel valve and a delayed action switch 30 controlling both the motor and the fuel valve, the first and second switches being operable by a single control member 2. The motor and fuel valve are energized by an electric battery 13 and the circuitry is arranged so that the control member 2 can be set in a heating position H in which the fuel valve is open and the motor is energized or in an off position A in which the fuel valve is closed and the motor continues to run until de-energized by the delayed action switch 30 or in a ventilating position L in which the fuel valve is closed and the motor is energized. The control member also has a starting position S in which the delay action switch 30 is bridged by a starting switch 5. A clockwork mechanism moves the control member from the starting position to the heating position. In the starting position the delay action switch 30 is open but the motor and the fuel valve are energized through the starting switch 5 and their own switches 7 and 24. The burner is ignited by an igniter (not shown) and heats a thermo-switch 27 which after a short time closes to energize a winding 29 of the delay action switch 30. The latter therefore closes. If ignition fails, the delay action switch does not close and the motor and fuel valve are de-energized by the starting switch 5 when the control member 2 reaches the heating position H. When the control member is moved to the off position A, the fuel valve is closed by its switch 24 but the motor is energized through its switch 7 and the delay action switch 30. The motor continues to run until the delay switch cools and the fuel delivered by the pump 15 is returned to the suction side of the pump through a spring-loaded valve. When the control member is moved to the ventilating position L, a switch 32 closes and the motor is energized through a circuit by-passing the delay action switch. The burner comprises a rotary atomiser driven by the motor.
